FORSYTHE WINS SECOND OF SEASON IN 358 CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Glenndon Forsythe of Aspers claimed the extra-distance Coliseum 358 sprint championship race, worth $1,200 after starting sixth.

Polesitter Brian Gorland held the lead for the first 17 circuits before Forsythe could get by with a low move in the second corner.

Forsythe had trouble tracking down Gorland after motoring into second on the third lap. It wasn’t until later in the race that a somewhat faltering Gorland gave Forsythe his opportunity.

The race pace was halted with three laps to go in the 25-lapper when point leader Cory Haas and Jay Galloway connected in the third turn, collecting three other cars.

After the read, Forsythe cruised flawlessly to his third career Grove triumph and second of the season at the track.

Mark Coldren followed Forsythe across the finish line followed by Frankie Herr, Scott Geesey and Tony Smolenyak.

Sixth through 10th went to Chris Shuttlesworth, Danny Massey, Jason Clauss, Chad Criswell and Todd Reed.

Criswell was named the Coliseum Hard Charger.

Heats for the 35 cars were won by Galloway, Shuttlesworth, Forsythe and Massey. Nicole Bower took the consolation.

Most popular driver at Lincoln Speedway

Well the voting is done for the most popular driver in the 358 division at Lincoln Speedway. Your votes have been counted and Nicole Bower came from nowhere to take the win. Nicole had 209 votes and 38% of the total votes. Congratulations to Nicole on the win.

2nd place was Jay Galloway who seemed to have an insurmountable lead a few days ago, ended up with 124 votes and 22% of the votes.

3rd was Kyle Moody who ended up with 45 votes and 8% of the vote. Kyle who made the big announcement this week that he will be the new driver of the 3w 410 sprint car next year can cap of an excellent season by moving to the finals of the most popular driver competition.

4th was Tim Wagaman. The driver from Hanover Pa captured 36 votes with 6% of the vote.

Rounding out the top 5 was Scott Geasey. Scott who driver for injured driver John Westbrook. Scott ended up with 24 votes and 4% of the vote.

These driver will move to the finals along with Mike Bittinger, Bill Dietrich, Brad McClelland, Jeff Rohrbaugh, and Jessie Morrison who where the top 5 from Trail Way Speedway voting last week.

These ten drivers will have 10 more to fight with as this week we have the voting for Williams Grove Speedway. Next week will be the voting for Selinsgrove Speedway, and then in 3 weeks we shall have the final 20 drivers (5 most popular driver from each track) battle it out to see who just is the most popular driver here in Central Pa in the 358 sprint car division.

358 Schedule for this week

The 358 schedule for this week looks as follows.

Williams Grove Speedway will have the 358 as a support division this week. This will be the only 358 race on Friday night as Trail Way Speedway has the night off.

Saturday night Selinsgrove Speedway will see the return of the 358's after being rained out this past week. They will also be the only race on the schedule as Lincoln Speedway has the URC sprints supporting the 410's.

Good luck to all the teams running this week. I will be at The Grove on Friday night covering the racing action. It will be a great week for the teams to make up some ground on the Central PA 358 Point Series leader as I don't believe he will be in action this weekend.

Selinsgrove Speedway coming down to the end of the season.

Selinsgrove Speedway

Following the fifth rain out of the season last weekend, Selinsgrove Speedway will return to racing action at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 15, with a four division show of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.

Only five point races remain this season (Aug. 15, 22, 29; Sept. 5, 12) to determine the 2009 track champions in each of the speedway’s weekly four divisions.

Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove leads the A&A Auto Stores 358 sprint car standings by 95 points over Nate Snyder of Halifax. Heimbach won his second race of the season on Aug. 1 and gained a slim margin over Snyder in the chase for the championship. Heimbach is seeking his third career sprint car track title at Selinsgrove, while Snyder is gunning for his first career championship.

Pat Cannon of Etters, who clinched last year’s title, is the leading 358 sprint car winner with four victories entering this weekend’s action. Cannon returned to the 358 sprint car division in late May following an early-season stint in 410 sprint car competition.

Updated Points for the 358's at Lincoln Speedway

Here is the updated points for Lincoln Speedway after this weeks racing action.

Driver - Points - Points behind leader
1. Dale Hammaker -3515-
2. Glenndon Forsythe-3350-165
3. Jeff Rohrbaugh-3335-180
4. Kevin Nagy-3250-265
5. Billy Dietrich-3080-435
6. Brad McClelland-2985-530
7. Tim Berkheimer-2855-660
8. Tim Wagaman-2855-660
9. Eric Tomecek -2835-680
10.Kyle Moody-2640-875

With only 2 points races left for the 358's at Lincoln, and the consistency that Mr. Hammaker has shown this season, it is going to be hard for Glenndon or Jeff to catch the grandfather of 358 sprints for the championship. But then again anything can happen in the division. With it being so tough to qualify through the heats with the fast, narrow track in the heats, plus the point leader always starting last, we could see trouble for Dale in the next two races at Lincoln.

Good luck to all the teams and lets hope the last part of the season is a safe one for all the drivers.

Brad McClelland wins 358 race at Lincoln Speedway

Brad McClelland came from fourth starting spot to claim his second Lincoln win in the 20-lap "358" sprint feature. McClelland found some traction low in turn two on the final restart to take the lead from front row starter and race-long leader Mike Bittinger on lap 14, one lap after the final restart of the race.

Matt Boland caught Bittinger on the final turn to finish second, with Bittinger settling for third. But it wasn’t a total loss for the Pancho’s Racing Products #93. Bittinger claimed the two-night Trail-Way/Lincoln "Shootout" after winning Friday night’s race at Trail-Way.

Lincoln points leader Dale Hammaker crossed fourth, with Adrian Shaffer coming from 13th-starting spot to finish fifth. Sixth through tenth were 17th-starting Jeff Rohrbaugh, polesitter Doug Hammaker, Logan Schuchart, 18th-starting Kevin Nagy, and Derek Sell.

Heats for the 40 "358" Sprints were won by Dale Hammaker, Bittinger, Glenndon Forsythe, and Boland, with Rohrbaugh and Nagy winning twin consolations.
