LINCOLN FORCED TO CANCEL FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MARCH

After reeling off 22 straight racing programs, Lincoln Speedway was forced to bow to the weather Saturday night, August 22nd. With the threat of rain all around the Central Pennsylvania area, Lincoln Speedway promoters Bob and Don Leiby, along with Alan Kreitzer, were hopeful as the a light drizzle began to fall just 15 minutes before the gates were scheduled to open.

With no significant change in the radar after two hours of watching and waiting, the promoters were forced to cancel the racing program.

"Kids Night" has been rescheduled for next Saturday, August 29th. It was also the second of two York County Racing Club Nights on the season, and promoters will check with the club before rescheduling the next club night before season’s end.

The 358 sprint cars now have just one event remaining on the season, the 358 Sprint Car Championship to be held on Saturday, September 12th. That puts Dale Hammaker in the driver’s seat for the 2009 "358" sprint point championship. He has a 165 point lead on Glenndon Forsythe heading into the final event. The only other driver who has a mathematical shot at the point title is defending champ Jeff Rohrbaugh, who is 180 points behind Hammaker.

Trail Way Speedway Friday Night

Trail Way Speedway tried it's hardest to get the racing action in tonight, but with a bad storm off in the horizon it was not to be. With 30 cars in the pits tonight 9their highest car count all season) they where able to get all 3 heats run before the rain hit during the thunder car heats. Your heat winners where Brian Allman, Austin Reed and Jeff Rorbaugh. Great racing in the heat races as the track was in great shape after the rain we got in the area early in the day.

No word on whether they will try and complete the race next week or just scrap the race entirely.

Hat's off to Trail Way for trying to get the show in.

the 5th and final qualifier was Cory Hass. Cory the points leader at Williams Grove Speedway scored 16 votes and 6% of the total to move into the finals.

These 5 drivers will move on to the finals to take on the winners of this weeks poll, The drivers of Selinsgrove Speedway, as well as the 10 drivers who have advanced so far in the voting.

Battle for the Central PA 358 Point Series Championship

The battle for the Central PA 358 Point Series Championship is heating up. With the racing season winding down, the local race tracks are getting to the end of their respective racing seasons. Here is a list of every race left in the battle for the 358 Point Championship.

Trail Way Speedway has 5 races left on the season.
Friday August 21
Friday August 28
Friday September 4
Friday September 11
and Friday September 18th which is the Trone Outdoor / Hoosier 358 Championship with an extra purse of $2,000 to win. I believe that is the richest prize ever payed out to a winner at the race track and is one of the biggest paying races in the area all season.

Selinsgrove Speedway also has 5 races left with 4 of them being point races.
This weeks Reinhart Food Services sponsored race
Saturday August 29
Saturday September 12 (Which is the last point race of the season at the track)
Saturday September 26 which is the Paul Stine Chevrolet 9th annual 358 Sprint car open.

Lincoln Speedway has 2 races left in their season fo5r the 358's.
This Saturday night August 22 as part of YCRC / Kids Night
and their 358 Championship race on Saturday night September 12th.

Williams Grove Speedway will host the most 358 races till the end of the season with 7 races left on their schedule.
Friday August 28
Sunday September 6th as part of the Billy Kimmel Memorial. ( This will not be a points race for the Central PA 358 Point Series as the top 10 teams in points at Williams Grove are already locked in the show that night.)
Friday September 11th will see the 358 division headline the racing action that night at the track.
Friday September 18
Friday September 25
Friday October 16 (Which will be the last points race for the Central PA 358 Point Series) In Williams Grove Speedway's 358 Championship Race.
And the final 358 race of the season on Saturday October 24th when they take part in the Features only program Fall Fest.

With all these races left, if you follow the 358 division you still have plenty of time to check out a race or 3 before the end of the season.
If you are keeping count that lets us 16 point races left in the battle for the Central PA 358 Point Series. With the point leader as well as 4 of the top 5 and 6 of the top 10 drivers in the points chase not Williams Grove Regulars, we just might see a team like Pat Cannon or Blane Heimbach still be able to pull out the win. Jeff Rorhbaugh holds the lead (by 61 points over Blane and 174 points over Cannon), but might not make the shown at Williams Grove. I believe from talking to Jeff that his last race will be September 18th, so that lets 3 races for the other teams to try and win it. Will Jeff and his car owners change their minds and run those races, only time will tell. Can either of the Selinsgrove drivers make up the points in those final races to take over the points lead. With Blane being Mr. Consistancy all seaso at Selinsgrove, and Pat winning just about every race he has entered, they both will make the charge for sure.

Good luck to all the 358 teams . Please have a safe and productive rest of the2009 racing season.

Races on the schedule for this week.

This week we have 3 points races on the schedule for the week for the 358's.

On Friday night we have the 358's racing at Trail Way Speedway in Hanover. Trail Way has 5 point races left, so the drivers will be battling extra hard to see who can come out on top of the points championship.

Saturday night there is two track racing the 358's. Lincoln Speedway has their next to last 358 race of the season as part of YCRC / kids night.

Selinsgrove Speedway also has the 358's headlining their normal Saturday night show which is sponsored by Reinhart Food Services. Selinsgrove only has 5 races left on their schedule for the 358's with only 4 races left in the battle for the point championship at the track.

Pat Cannon of Etters drove to his fifth win of the season and the 15th of his career in Saturday night’s 25-lap main event for 358 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway. It was Cannon’s first win at the track since his Firecracker 30 victory July 4 behind the wheel of the Highlands’ Tire Service No. 3.

Second-place starter Ryan Kissinger powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Kissinger was trailed by polesitter Tom Wise for the first four laps until sixth-place starter Colby Womer advanced to second.

The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap five when Alan Spriggle made contact with the inside third turn guardrail. On the ensuing restart,

Kissinger and Womer raced in a torrid battle for the lead position while 12th-place starter Pat Cannon rocketed into the third position. On the 11th lap, Womer was scored as the leader before Matt Heimbach rolled to a stop on the frontstretch, bringing out the caution flag. For the next several laps an intense battle unfolded between Womer, Kissinger, and Cannon for the lead.

Cannon secured the lead with an inside pass by Womer in the second turn on the 15th lap. Once in front, Cannon began to pull away from the field.Womer, however, turned in a solid second-place run, while ninth-place starter Davie Franek, Kissinger, and 19th-place starter Blane Heimbach raced in the top five.

At the finish, Cannon was victorious by 3.9 seconds over Womer, Franek, B. Heimbach, and 10th-place starter TJ Stutts.
