Update on Bedford this Saturday

This Saturday night Bedford Speedway had on their schedule a 358/360 challenge race. This race has been changed to a URC event only. I talked to the President of the URC Sprint Car Division and he told me this decision was made a few weeks ago but a mix up on the tracks web site was to blame for the news not getting out to the teams. The web master got the 358 late models (which are on the card) mixed up with the 358 sprints.

I hope this helps out the 358 teams that might have been heading up to Bedford to race on Saturday night.

Wet Weather Cancels Final Points Races

Selinsgrove Speedway officials were forced to cancel the final scheduled four division point race of the 2009 season when persistent rain and wet pit area and track conditions prevailed.

The sixth cancellation of the season also brought to an end the point chases for this year’s track titles. Nate Snyder of Halifax (358 sprint cars),
will be honored as Selinsgrove Speedway’s 2009 track champions at the annual awards banquet at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey Hotel on November 14.

The 2009 season will conclude Saturday, Sept. 26, with the Ninth Annual Paul Stine Chevrolet Open for 358 sprint cars at 7 p.m. The 30-lap 358 sprint car Open will pay $3,000 to win.

LINCOLN BATTLES, BUT LOSES THIRD SHOW OF THE YEAR TO THE RAIN

After running in the track three times, Lincoln gave up and threw in the towel Saturday night, postponing its annual 358 Sprint Car Championship event to a date to be determined.

Track master Fred Putney had the track just about ready to go when the first of three rainfalls struck the track shortly before 5:30 p.m. Putney and his crew went back to work, running in the track a second time, and then did it again after a second rainfall arrived at about 6:45 p.m.

Officials were about ready to tell the sprint cars drivers to buckle up for heat in the motors when rain again drenched the track at 8:15, forcing promoters Bob and Don Leiby and Alan Kreitzer to cancel the evening’s racing program.

Forty-seven "358" sprint cars were in the pits.

Officials had already reduced time trials to a single lap before the program was cancelled.

Though the "358" Championship will be rescheduled at a date to be announced, the rain gave Grantville’s Dale Hammaker his first-ever Lincoln track title by 165 points over Glenndon Forsythe, with defending track champ Jeff Rohrbaugh finishing third in points, 180 behind Hammaker.

An announcement regarding the date of the 358 championship event will be made later this week.
