BRIAN BRUCKNER CLAIMS CAREER FIRST IN TRAIL-WAY 358 SPRINTS

Hanover, PA (06/18/10) – As has been said many times before, first career wins are always special.

Such was the case Friday night, as Carlisle ’s Brian Bruckner raced to his first win in the 358 sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway. And with the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown on hand, he even got to take a checkered flag along home.

Originally scheduled to start seventh, Bruckner moved up a row when third-starting Zach Euculano spun in turn four on the initial start. He moved up another row when Scott Fisher flipped in turn one on the restart. Also collected in the Fisher crash were Randy Whisler, Brad McClelland, and Mike Bittinger. Both McClelland and Bittinger dove into the pits and made repairs in time for the third attempt to start the race.

McClelland was sent to the pits later in the race with top wing damage, and Bittinger came back to finish fifth.

Polesitter and last weekend’s Lincoln winner Steve Storrie led the first lap before Bruckner took over. Bruckner led the rest of the way despite heavy pressure from Dale Hammaker over the last five laps. Hammaker caught Joe Trone, Jr. for second on lap 19 and immediately closed on the leader.

“I was getting a little nervous there near the end,” said a happy Bruckner in victory lane, “I looked up and saw the 66 on the scoreboard, but I’ve beaten him before and just tried to stay focused.”

“Shawn (Norris) did a great job setting up the car,” continued Bruckner, “and I want to thank my sponsors West Shore Printing and Martin Motorworks.”

Crossing third behind Hammaker was Tim Wagaman, who originally started 14th. Trone and Bittinger completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were 13th-starting Todd Spangler, Jessie Morrison, Storrie, 16th-starting Troy Becker, and Mike Duncan, Jr.

Heats for the 19 “358” sprinters were won by Storrie and Duncan (his first-ever qualifying win).
