TRAIL-WAY CAREER WIN NUMBER 100 FOR BRAD McCLELLAND
As McClelland was driving through the final turns, the red flag came out when Steve Storrie flew into the catch fence and tore it down in turn one. Storrie was uninjured, but concern over the damaged catch fence forced promoters to end the race with 24 laps complete.
Fans were moved from turn one before the features were run for the other three divisions.
For McClelland, it was his sixth win of the season and 26th “358” sprint win of his Trail-Way career. Counting his 74 micro-sprint wins, McClelland became the first driver to ever win 100 races at the McSherrystown oval.
At first, it didn’t appear he’d be in the hunt.
“There were six laps down and I wasn’t going anywhere,” said McClelland of his early run when the first caution of the event came out for a three-car spin in turn two, “I saw the top was open, and hoped it would come in.”
It did, and McClelland began making his move, advancing to ninth by the time a red flag came out when Brian Garland tipped over in turn four.
McClelland had moved up to third when Scott Fisher vaulted over the third turn wall and down over the hill on lap 16. Fisher was uninjured in the spectacular crash, but the race was halted for several minutes.
When asked by track announcer Scott Hockensmith if he made any changes during the red, McClelland quipped, “Just my attitude.”
McClelland took second from Mike Duncan, Jr. on the restart, and drove under polesitter and race-long leader Billy Heltzel III for the front spot in turns one and two of lap 18.
He was well in front of tenth starting and runner-up Logan Schuchart when the final red came out on lap 25.
McClelland thanked his mom and dad for all their support through the years, and also thanked Joe and Sandy Trone, whose car he drove to several 270cc micro-sprint wins during an earlier championship year.
Schuchart was credited with second, followed by ninth-starting Dale Hammaker, Keith Prutzman, and Randy Davis, Jr. Sixth through tenth were 15th-starting Austin Reed, Tim Wagaman, Duncan, 13th-starting Arron Spahr (who competed in his first-ever “358” sprint car race), and 17th-starting Michael Ruttkamp.
Heats for the 25 “358”sprinters were won by McClelland, Schuchart, and Wagaman.

NRG CONTROLS NORTH ANNOUNCES $15,000 PURSE INCREASE
SELINGROVE, Pa. – Through the generous sponsorship support from NRG Controls North, Inc. in Selinsgrove and in conjunction with Mach I Chassis in Camp Hill, the Tenth Annual National Open for 358/360 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 4, will be one of the richest-paying 358/360 sprint car races in history. The winner of the 35-lap Open will earn $8,000 out of a purse totaling more than $36,500, a $15,000 increase to the purse that was announced just last weekend.
Mr. Brian Scandle, President, and Mr. Jeff Edmunds, Vice President, of NRG Controls North, made the announcement today in hopes of attracting a stellar field of race teams to the venerable half-mile dirt track to compete in this historic race in the northeastern United States for the 358 and 360 sprint car divisions.
The top five positions combined will pay out more than $22,000 in prize money, with $5,000 to finish second, $3,400 for third, $3,100 for fourth, and $2,550 to finish fifth. The race will pay $1,000 to finish tenth and $500 to start.
The 358/360 Open will be a tribute to the speedway’s late five-time sprint car champion Jim Nace, who was instrumental in helping to establish the 358 sprint car division as the track’s weekly headline open wheel division in 2001. Nace, who campaigned his popular Fast Tees No. 6 as both a driver and car owner in recent years, died last November following a seven-year battle with cancer.
The fast qualifier for the 358/360 Open will receive $100 for the Fast Tees Fast Time Award in Memory of Jim Nace plus a Hoosier racing tire from Miller’s Racing Parts of Mechanicsburg.
Tentatively, the qualifying format for the race will include time trials, heat races, and a B-main; however, the format will ultimately be determined by the number of entries for the race.
Track gates will open at 5 p.m., with qualifying slated to begin at 7 p.m. The rain date, if needed, will be Sunday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. over the Labor Day holiday.

Time trials, heat races, and a B-main will be the format for qualifying for the Open, which will guarantee a driver $300 to start out of a purse of more than $21,000. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. Qualifying is slated to begin at 7 p.m. The rain date, if needed, will be Sunday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. over the Labor Day holiday.
The $6,000 winner’s share is a tribute to the speedway’s late five-time sprint car champion Jim Nace, who was instrumental in helping to establish the 358 sprint car division as the track’s weekly headline open wheel division in 2001. Nace, who campaigned his popular Fast Tees No. 6 as both a driver and car owner in recent years, died last November following a seven-year battle with cancer.
The speedway will also present the Jim Nace Memorial 28th Annual National Open for 410 sprint cars on Saturday, Sept. 18, in which one driver could win $26,000.
The fast qualifier for the 358/360 Open will receive $100 for the Fast Tees Fast Time Award in Memory of Jim Nace plus a Hoosier racing tire from Miller’s Racing Parts of Mechanicsburg.
Title sponsor NRG Controls North, Inc., based in Selinsgrove, is a full-service commercial controls company and systems integrator specializing in automated building controls and security systems for both the public and private sectors, including hospitals, universities, public schools, prisons, office buildings, and manufacturing facilities, to name a few. The Middleburg IGA is sponsoring the championship trophy.
The first nine 358/360 Opens have produced six different winners. TJ Stutts of Liverpool, who won the 358 sprint car season opener in March, will be seeking his third career victory in the Open, having won the 2001 and 2003 events.
Current point leader Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove, who won the 2009 edition of the Open in April of this year when it was rained out last fall, was also a winner of the event in 2005. To date, Heimbach has a single win at each Selinsgrove and Williams Grove Speedways.
Central Pennsylvania’s 12-time 358 sprint car winner Pat Cannon of Etters won the Open in 2007 and 2008. Cannon, who is the points leader at Williams Grove and in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic overall central Pennsylvania 358 sprint car series, has seven wins at Selinsgrove and is currently a close second in the point standings.
Adrian Shaffer of Hellam was the Open champion in 2002. Defending track champion Nate Snyder of Halifax, who has two wins this season, won the 2004 race. Phil Walter of McClure, celebrating his 25th season in auto racing this year, took home the trophy in 2006.
Joining the 358/360 sprint cars on Sept. 4 will be the pro stocks and roadrunners in a complete series of heat races and 15-lap and 12-lap main events, respectively.

URC's & 358's Serve Up Open Wheel Doubleheader This Week
Each sprint car division will compete in a complete series of qualifying events and 25-lap features. The last time the speedway presented two complete sprint car racing programs in one night showcasing the URC sprint cars and 358 sprint cars was in 2007, when Joe Biasi of Tamaqua and Nate Snyder of Halifax split the victories in the main events, respectively. The 2008 and 2009 races were rained out.
Following last weekend’s double features for the 358 sprint cars at the track, Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove continues to lead the standings by a mere 45 points over Pat Cannon of Etters. Heimbach, who has one win this season at Selinsgrove, is seeking his third career track championship. Cannon, with seven victories at the track and 12 overall this season, is gunning for his second title at Selinsgrove.
Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., became only the third driver to repeat a 358 sprint car victory at the track in the regularly scheduled 25-lap feature last Saturday night. Now 485 points behind Heimbach in the third position, Franek is closing in on the leaders to make a run for his first career track title. Larry Kelleher of Scranton and defending champion and two-time winner Snyder of Halifax are currently in the top five in the point standings.
In URC tour competition, defending champion JJ Grasso of Pedricktown, N.J., will enter URC’s two-race weekend at Bedford Speedway on Friday night and Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night with a 55-point advantage over six-time champion Curt Michael of Ocean View, Del. Grasso has three wins this season as Michael picked up a win last weekend. Michael has been
wearing down the point lead held by Grasso over the past three weekends. Justin Collett of Middletown, Del.; Josh Weller of Mertztown; and Randy West of Boyertown make-up URC's top five in points going into this weekend’s racing action.
On May 15, the URC sprint cars competed with the central Pennsylvania 358 sprint cars in the Jack Gunn Memorial Challenge Race at Selinsgrove Speedway. For the second year in a row, Trevor Lewis of Upper Black Eddy made a last-lap pass by Pat Cannon of Etters to win the prestigious event.
In the chase for the late model track championship, Steve Campbell of Danville is gaining on three-time defending champion Jeff Rine of Danville in the standings. Rine, a seven-time winner this season at the track, holds a 340-point advantage over Campbell.
Title sponsor Reinhart is the third-largest, privately-held food service distributor in the United States. For more than 30 years, Reinhart has provided restaurants and venues such as Selinsgrove Speedway with 14,000-plus items ranging from fresh poultry to beverages to food service equipment.

Selinsgrove Speedway Points as of Aug. 17th.
Driver - Points - Pts. Behind
1.Blane Heimbach-4520
2. Pat Cannon-4475-45
3.Davie Franek-4035-485
4.Larry Kelleher-3885-635
5.Nate Snyder-3830-690
6.Colby Womer-3685-835

8.T. J. Stutts-3535-985
9.Matt Heimbach-3290-1230
10.Ryan Kissinger-3155-1365
I would say this is a 2 driver points chase at this point, but who knows who will walk away crowned the 2010 Selinsgrove Speedway Track Champion. Pat Cannon has dominated the track this year with 7 wins at the track, yet after 2 bad races which saw him catch fire one week, and flip the other, Blane Heimbach has taken over the points lead and will try and hold of the 3 car for the final 4 (I believe) point races left.
Trail Way Speedway Points as of Aug. 17th.
Driver - Points - Pts. Behind
1.Brad McClelland-623
2.Tim Wagaman-598-25
3.Dale Hammaker-563-60

8.Brian Bruckner-451-172
9.Randy Whisler-440-183
10.Jessie Morrison-416-207
10.Scott Fisher-416-207
This has been one of the best point battles all year. The track has seen 3 different point leaders so far this year. McClelland lead most of the season, only to have some bad luck and have Hammaker take the point for a few weeks. Dale has had some real bad luck the past few weeks, so he has lost some ground in the chase. His misfortune has been a major help to Tim Wagaman. Wagaman who won his 1st career feature this season , has been fast week in and week out and will make sure the 6 & the 66 are on their toes for the final 4 races. It would not surprise me to see the point lead change again before the season is over.
Williams Grove Speedway top 10 in points.
Driver - Points - Pts. Behind
1.Pat Cannon-2970
2.Scott Geesey-2340-630
3.Cory Haas-2230-740

5.Logan Schuchart -2010-960
6.Glenndon Forsythe-1940-1030
7.Kyle Moody-1795-1175
8.Nate Hammaker-1680-1290
9.Danny Massey-1660-1310
10.Chad Trout -1635-1335
With 6 point races left (I believe) this point chase is all but over. It would take a huge collapse from Pat Cannon for him not to be crowned the 2010 Williams Grove Speedway 358 track champion. The fight for 2nd though is a good one between Scott Geesey and Cory Haas. That will be a dog fight right down to the wire, as will the fight for 4th between Heimbach & Schuchart. While the track does not give out a "Rookie of the year"Award for the division, I believe it is safe to say that Logan would be the choice if they did. Kyle Moody will drop out of the top 10 the next time they race as he has announced this week that the 99m team is done for the season. That will shake things up between now and the last race of the season on October 15th.
Lincoln Speedway Top 10 in Points.

2.Logan Schuchart -3175- 230

5.Brook Weibley-3055- 350

7.Chad Trout-2945-460
8.Mike Bittinger-2700-705
9.Jeff Rohrbaugh-2660-745
10.Adrian Shaffer-2645-760
With only 2 races left to crown the 2010 Lincoln Speedway track champion, it looks like Dale Hammaker will make it 2 in a row. Dale has a 230 pt. lead over Logan Schuchart, but Logan has been very fast the past 4 races, which he has a 1 win. Logan has shown he can come through the field and pass cars so he will keep the heat on "The Godfather". The battle for 3rd is hot and heavy as Glenndon, Wagaman,& Weibley are within 50 pts of each other. If 1 of these drivers have a bad week, they could fall all the way back to 7th at the end of the season.

Davey Franek Wins 2nd Of The Season
Heimbach & Cannon Tango In Turn Three In Nightcap FeatureSELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Pat Cannon of Etters and Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., each won one of the twin 25-lap 358 sprint car features Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Cannon’s seventh win of the season at the track and his 12th overall came in the make-up feature that was rained out on July 24. The victory marked the 24th of his career at the track at the wheel of the Highland’s Tire Service No. 3.
For Franek, who dueled with Cannon for the lead in the second feature, his victory at the wheel of the No. 4R was his second of the season at Selinsgrove and the sixth of his career at the Snyder County oval.
Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Rislone URC sprint cars, 358 sprint cars, and roadrunners at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.
Track officials also announced the tenth annual NRG Controls North National Open for 358/360 sprint cars on Saturday, Sept. 4, will be a 35-lap event paying $6,000 to win and $300 to start.
In the chase for the 358 sprint car championship, Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove entered the night’s racing program with a 105-point lead over Cannon, fell behind by 15 points after the first feature, only to regain the lead by 45 points following the second feature. Cannon crashed out of the second feature on lap 18 while dueling with Franek for the lead.
Heimbach, who was racing third, was also involved in the third-turn tangle but able to rejoin the race and finish ninth.
In the regularly scheduled 358 sprint car feature, polesitter Beidleman powered into the lead at start of the race. Beidleman was trailed by sixth-place starter Phil Walter for the first two laps until P. Walter made an exciting pass for the lead entering turn three. On the fifth circuit, however, P. Walter’s car rolled to a stop in turn four, moving Beidleman back into the lead.
On the sixth lap, following a spirited wheel-to-wheel duel, ninth-place starter Franek took the lead from Beidleman with an inside pass entering turn three. On a lap seven restart, Cannon, who started the second feature in the 10th position, horsepowered his way from fourth to second in less than half of a lap.
With 10 laps completed, Franek was leading Cannon, Beidleman, second-place starter Derek Locke, and 15th-place starter Blane Heimbach. By lap 15, the leaders began to encounter heavy traffic, closing the gap in the race for the front spot.
On lap 18, Franek and Cannon dueled for the lead entering turn three. Contact between Franek and Cannon caused Cannon’s car to spin across the race track, hit the outside wall and flip over. B. Heimbach, who was racing a close third, made contact with Cannon’s car and rolled to a stop. All drivers escaped injury from the wild turn three melee and B. Heimbach was able to rejoin the race.
When the race resumed, Franek continued to set a torrid pace while 11th-place starter Snyder began to show his speed again late in the race and moved into second. At the finish, Franek posted a convincing 4.3 second margin of victory over Snyder, Beidleman, Larry Kelleher and Mike Walter.
Heat Winners: Davie Franek, Pat Cannon, TJ Stutts
Consolation Winner: Mike Walter
Cannon Fires On All Cylinders In Makeup Feature Victory
In the make-up 358 sprint car feature from July 24, last week’s winner and second-place starter Matt Heimbach took the early lead, with fourth-place starter Ryan Kissinger and sixth-place starter Jason Shultz in close pursuit in the second and third positions.By lap four, 10th-place starter Pat Cannon had advanced to fourth. On the sixth lap, Cannon passed Shultz for the third position and two laps later moved into second. The caution flag unfurled on lap nine when Bob Beidleman’s car stopped in turn two. When the race resumed, Cannon made the winning pass by M. Heimbach in turn two.
For the remainder of the race, Cannon had clear sailing, although 11th-place starter Nate Snyder began to show a lot of speed late in the race and moved into the third position. At the checkered flag, Cannon was victorious by 2.5 seconds over M. Heimbach, Snyder, Davie Franek, and Shultz.
25-Lap Make-Up A-Main (from July 24, 2010): 1) 3 Pat Cannon 2) 14 Matt Heimbach 3) 56 Nate Snyder 4) 4R Davie Franek 5) 1 Jason Shultz 6) 5B Josh Beard 7) 19 Colby Womer 8) 21 Adrian Shaffer 9) 5 Phil Walter 10) 12 Blane Heimbach 11) 77 Derek Locke 12) 76 Larry Kelleher 13) 71 Jessica Anderson 14) 99M Kyle Moody 15) 16H Matt Horst 16) 42 Alan Spriggle 17) 63 Mike Walter DNF 18) 66 Ryan Kissinger DNF 19) 769 Steve Nederostek DNF 20) 1S Logan Shuchart DNF 21) 81 Bob Beidleman DNF 22) 80M Dan Richcreek DNF 23) 9 Wes Irwin DNF 24) 19X Cody Keller DNF 25) 22 Matt Boland DNS 26) 1W Eric Tomececk DNS
