Just a reminder about this weekend.

I just wanted to post an update and remind all 358 teams that there is NO point races this weekend for the Central PA 358 Point Series presented by HTMA. Trail Way & Lincoln do not race, and Selinsgrove has a 358/360 challenge race scheduled. The Billy Kimmel Memorial is not a points race because the top 10 in points at Williams Grove Speedway are already locked into the race, so it is not an open 358 race for all teams.

Sorry for any confusion on this matter.

MICHAEL RUTTKAMP CLAIMS FIRST CAREER WIN IN TRAIL-WAY 358'S

Hanover, PA (8/27/10) - "I didn't know who was in that 10W, and I guess it's good I didn't!" exclaimed Wilton, Connecticut's Michael Ruttkamp after scoring his first career win in the 25-lap "358" sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night.

Ruttkamp, a rookie in the 358's after a past career as a pavement racer in the Northeast, held off the early challenges of Brad McClelland, and then Tim Wagaman, and then former World of Outlaw 410 sprint car driver Cris Eash to earn the hard-fought win.

Ruttkamp started fourth and grabbed the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Billy Heltzel III on lap seven. But by the next lap, eighth-starting Brad McClelland and seventh-starting Tim Wagaman were on his tail.

Trail-Way's all-time leading winner tried everything through a series of cautions to make the pass, but could never get by. Suddenly, Tim Wagaman drove under McClelland for the runner-up spot on lap 13. The pair then swapped second place over the next three laps, with Wagaman settling into second with eight laps to go. Just as Ruttkamp entered lapped traffic on lap 21, all heck broke loose on the front stretch. Zach Euculano stopped in turn four, bringing out
the caution. As the yellow flag waived, Ruttkamp and Wagaman slowed on the front stretch, and McClelland didn't. McClelland threw it sideways in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid hitting Wagaman. McClelland ended up sideways on the front stretch and Wagaman came to a stop in turn two with a flat tire.

That sequence of events set up a dramatic race to the checkered, with ninth-starting Cris Eash, in his first ride in a sprint car (the Brian Bruckner #10W) in nearly two years, restarting second.
Ruttkamp got a good jump on the restart and appeared to be pulling away. But his back side came around through turn four with the white flag waiving. Ruttkamp gathered it back in to hold off Eash by a mere .84 seconds.

"I thought I was going to lose it on the last lap," said Ruttkamp upon exiting his MSK Enterprises/Northeast Taxidermy Studios/Pancho's Racing Products #8R, "I can't believe I'm standing here! Hopefully, I'll be back here soon." Ruttkamp took five years off after leaving pavement racing, including the Hooter's Pro Cup Series, before coming to dirt for the first
time this year.

Joe Trone, Jr. (who started 13th), Arron Spahr (who came from 12th in only his second 358 Trail-Way start ever), and 23rd-starting Randy Davis, Jr. completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were Dale Hammaker, Tim Wagaman, Mike Duncan, Jr., Euculano, and McClelland.
Heats for the 24 "358" Sprints were won by Euculano, Wagaman, and McClelland.

Cannon Takes Win Streak Into Next Weekend's "Big One"

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Pat Cannon of Etters drove to his ninth win of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway in convincing style in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car feature. The victory, the 26th of Cannon’s career at the track, came at the wheel of the Highlands’ Tire & Service Center No. 3 and marked his 14th overall win in 2010.

Cannon now leads the A&A Auto Stores 358 sprint car standings by just 45 points over Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove, who trailed Cannon across the line in second in the feature event.

Josh Beard of Brogue was transported to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with undisclosed injuries he sustained in a lap two crash in turn one in the sprint car consolation race.

Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Tenth Annual NRG Controls North National Open for 358/360 sprint cars at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 4. The 35-lap Open will pay $8,000 to win out of a purse totaling more than $36,500. Joining the sprint cars will be the pro stock division. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. The rain date, if needed, will be Sunday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.

A multi-car crash unfolded in turns three and four on the first lap of the sprint car feature in which Steve Nederostek’s race car flipped violently. All drivers, including the first four starters in the lineup who were involved, escaped injury.

For the restart, original fifth-place starter Mike Walter moved to the pole position and powered into the lead at the drop of the green flag. M. Walter was chased by original sixth-place starter Matt Heimbach, who joined M. Walter on the front row for the restart of the race.

By lap five, 12th-place starter Pat Cannon stormed into the third position. Three laps later, Cannon passed M. Heimbach for second and began to reel in M. Walter. On the 11th circuit, Cannon made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn four and quickly checked out from the rest of the field.

At the midway point of the event, Cannon was setting the pace in front of M. Walter, M. Heimbach, eighth-place starter Davie Franek, and seventh-place starter TJ Stutts. By lap 18, 10th-place starter Blane Heimbach began to show some speed and throttled his way into third.

B. Heimbach secured the second position on a lap 22 restart but ran out of time when he attempted to catch Cannon. At the finish, Cannon was victorious by 4.5 seconds over B. Heimbach, M. Walter, Franek, and Kevin Nouse.
