Logan Schuchart Wins at Williams Grove

Logan Schuchart worked from ninth starting position up to fifth by the second circuit before Chad Trout hit the third turn wall and turned over, bringing out the red flag with three laps completed in the 20-lap 358 sprint main.

On the restart, Schuchart zipped by Ted Thomas and Amy Ott up to third, following leaders Rich Eichelberger and second runner Michael Ruttkamp.

And by lap seven, Schuchart took the lead away from pacesetter Ruttkamp with an outside move off of the fourth corner.

Once in front, the grandson of 36-time Williams Grove 410 sprint winner Bobby Allen was not to be denied his first Grove victory as Schuchart drove unchallenged to the checkers despite restarts on laps nine and 13.

Allen joined his grandson in victory lane.

Ruttkamp settled for second followed by Pat Cannon, Eichelberger and Scott Geesey.

CRIS EASH CLAIMS FIRST CAREER TRAIL-WAY WIN IN “358” SPRINTS

Hanover, PA (05/20/11) –Hanover’s Cris Eash pulled away late to become the fifth different winner in five races in the “358” sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night. It was the first career Trail-Way sprint car win for the former World of Outlaws rookie of-the-year and 1996 Lincoln Speedway “410” sprint car champ.

And he did it in grand style, coming from tenth starting spot to take the lead from outside front row starter Keith Prutzman on lap 16, just before the final caution of the race came out for polesitter Randy Whisler, who came to a stop on the track while running sixth. “It’s good to be here,” said Eash upon exiting the Brian Bruckner-owned West Shore Printing/CFI Sprint Bodies/Martin Metal Works #10W in victory lane, “We’ve been struggling and made some changes this week.”

“I thought you couldn’t pass at this place,” added Eash, “but you can if you get your car working good. And Shawn (Norris) had it working good. It’s taken me some time to get used to this place. It’s smaller than I’m used to, but I’m getting the hang of it.”

Eash entered the race as the points leader (by 4 points over Billy Dietrich), but said that he will miss an upcoming race due to his son’s high school graduation. But he added that a track title is still one of his goals.

Prutzman hung on for his best finish of the season in second, with Jeff Rohrbaugh coming from eighth to finish third, Steve Owings starting seventh and finishing fourth, and Dale Hammaker fifth.

Rounding out the top ten were Dietrich, JB Cunningham, Tim Wagaman, rookie driver Austin Hogue, and Joe Trone, Jr.

Heats for the 19 “358” sprint cars were won by Owings and Whisler.

THUNDERSTORM AT GATE-OPENING FORCES EMMR BENEFIT CANCELLATION

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 5/15/2011 - The first in what appeared on the radar to be a series of evening thunderstorms hit the Pigeon Hills ten minutes after gates opened Sunday, forcing promoters to cancel the “Sprint Car Spectacular” program intended to benefit the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.

NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, World of Outlaw stars Cody Darrah and Lucas Wolfe, and 2010 Knoxville Nationals winner and All-Star Circuit of Champions titlist Tim Shaffer were among the drivers planning to compete. All proceeds from the night were to be turned over to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing to support Phase IV of the EMMR’s museum expansion.

Kahne, who had problems late in the Cup race at Dover, was on the grounds when the cancellation was announced.

Promoters Bob and Don Leiby and Alan Kreitzer announced that rain checks for those who had already entered the gates can be used for any upcoming show through and including Saturday, June 4th. Anyone who would like a refund can mail rain checks to Lincoln.

410 and 358 sprint car teams which were already in the pits can turn in their wristbands next Saturday (May 21st) and receive a $5 refund, or the teams can keep the rain checks to use at the next show for which there is a $25 pit gate admission.

Next weekend, Lincoln Speedway will be back in action Saturday, May 21st at 7 PM with another three-division show featuring the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprints, the Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints, and Thundercars. Gates will open at 5 PM.
